Lately

It has been quite some time since I've written. However, I do visit my blog to find updates on bloggers but seldom have anything to write. I am finding it hard to maintain a cool head, with all other turbulent matters like academics, finding a job, thinking about PhD, complicated people, etc .... creating a rather rancid mental state. As somebody not so long ago pointed out: to be happy, indulge excessively in your work and forget about all those unpleasant things and people. Talking about people, I recently shortened my GTalk list, certain people with whom I don't see making any meaningful conversation, now or in the near future. I don't mean to be rude, but it is just that I see no point in maintaining any sort of relation with these people. Sometimes, you might do this to escape from something very painful..... Damn memories are hard to erase!!

Why Daijiworld has started to suck.......

www.daijiworld.com is a popular website giving Mangaloreans information on current events in and around the district of Dakshina Kannada. Most mangaloreans who make use of internet, spend a good amount of time reading articles which at times, makes us proud of our roots, and at other times, gets us frustrated due to our varied political/communal affiliations. However, there are inherent flaws with this website that I wish to point out.

To start with, the english used is below average. I have been waiting for quite sometime now for their english to improve. Another point is that, their news is stronlgy biased towards the RC community. When it comes to politics, I think this is the worst source of information. Petty issues are given highlight. I cannot blame them for they cater to the extra-curious and rumour hungry readers. The most appaling of these was a recent incident that was covered to a great detail pertaining to an attempted mass suicide by a family near Surathkal. I thought that at their turbulent and painful time, the least that media (and daijiworld in particular) could do was to not magnify their pain and shame for readers to relish or sympathise.

The website though very effective in covering news, lacks the quality of accepting fair criticism meted out to it. A major reason that prompted me to write this post was an article yesterday titled :
Celina Jaitley's Gay Love Gets Her Emotional. I mean who cares what Celina Jaitley has to say on this issue? I pasted a comment requesting them to reserve the main space of their website for meaningful news. My comment never saw the light of the day as it was filtered out by some dishonourable editor of the website. However, comments by viewers that incite excitement or controversy are promptly displayed and such comments form a major chunk of the comments section. The comments section is an easy instrument for community bashing. Based on the comments posted, I can deduce that the editors take no offence at the ones having communal/political overtones. This, as I see, is particularly dangerous, as it mentally encourages stereotypes and our opinions of other communities get warped, thereby dividing people further.

I also admit that they have done a good job by keeping us informed of important events. To summarize: What irritates me are the trivialities they report which makes me sick and below average english. Anyways, they are here to please our people and I wish them all the best!

A quote....

I read this quote on some newspaper during my NITK days, and it sort of mocks us all. Clearly, a testament of our barbarism in a way. Sadly, this is true. It goes like this.....

God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages - Jacques Deval

Some say that God created us in his image. I can't figure out where things went wrong...

Bull Shit......

The following is "something" that might take India by storm. Considering the fact that due to rise of the Saffron epidemic (symptoms being: Turning into zombies and into a bunch of stubborn retards at the same time), this "something" could give Coca-Cola and Pepsi a hard-time. Wow, that is something.

Holi-Birthday.....

Last weekend was unusual. Bittersweet would be a better word. My first birthday in the United States..... My friends here organized a surprise party at midnight. Overwhelming it was to see my friends present at that time, to make it a memorable one. This was 20th of March!!
I bunked office and took good rest at home, a sort of luxury that I enforced upon myself on my birthday - No work and Only Play!!. In the evening, the Indian Student Association (which was untill now, perfectly in a dormant state) hosted Holi Hungama at Palmer Commons (thanks to the efforts of three-deviyan). I decided to wear Kurta for the event, and convinced my friend Kaka to do the same. The guy was scared that he'd be branded as a Mussie when he gets to the Central campus and possibly attract attention of jobless officials. The show started off with a wonderful half hour performance by Maize Mirchi, the Indian A-Capella group who created such an impression that I might consider attending their concert next month. There was also some good solo and duet performances, and the one by Savi and Rushyal was rather enchanting and beatiful. The skit titled "Kaun Banega Karodpati", which was based on a character "Dumb-Dog Millionaire" was long but the guys managed to pull off some nice jokes. After dinner, people played Holi with yellow-highlighters and white T-shirts in the presence of UV light. This somewhat reminded me of the UV light dance that was performed at NITK last year. To my surprise, some people even managed to give me a partial GPL on the Holi dance floor. However, an element of obesity helped me get away with it.
